Dog Boarding

The kennel facility is a 40' x 60' building behind my house. It was built to code as a commercial facility and has been inspected and passed by both the parish building inspector and the state Fire Marshal. It also meets the Americans with Disabilities Act standards of accessibility. It is still a work in progress and will be for quite a while as I am doing all of the finishing out myself. The first three years were focused on the infrastructure, including 2 central heat and air units, a commercial septic system (which required a DEQ wastewater permit), lots of electrical to prepare for the scope of the finished project and a drop-ceiling to facilitate temperature maintenance during the heat of summer or the cold of winter.

I am still working on finishing out the interior. In the front half I currently have three Single Suites (5-1/2' x 8-1/2' tiled), one Queen Suite (8-1/2' x 8-1/2', tiled), one King Suite (11-1/2' x 8-1/2' tiled), and two portable 4'W x 8'L x 6'H welded-wire kennels. Large, high-energy dogs cannot be boarded in the welded wire kennels due to the risk of escape. The finished Canine Suites each have a tiled floor with a heated section, tiled walls and a double-hung window which can be opened at the top for ventilation on nice days. The long-term plan is to eventually have a doggie door in each suite which will lead to a covered outdoor patio area. In the rear half of the kennel I also have two unfinished Single Suites and an unfinished King Suite. These rooms have bare cement board walls and a linoleum floor. They are secure and in use, they are just not pretty yet. :) For the time being I have portable A/C and heating units for this rear area until I finish framing and put the second central unit in use. I am also working on a grooming area which will allow me to offer a bath before your pet goes home. I hope to eventually have a groomer come in a couple of days a week to offer full-service grooming.

As of now, I have one 30' x 50' gravel yard and a 30' x 65' grass yard which are attached to the kennel by a covered, enclosed breezeway. Dogs are never left unattended in the yard. They are let out a minimum of 4 times per day between 8am and 9pm. My goal is to eventually fence approximately one acre with two gravel yards for rainy, muddy days and a large grassy area to let loose on nice, dry days. I also want to put in a doggie pool for the pups to cool off in during those scorching summer days. This is just a small sample of the plans I have in store. I think you will be very pleased with what I am building to ensure that your pet is comfortable during his or her stay.

I will treat each pet as an individual and want to know anything you can tell me about their likes, dislikes, fears and routines so that I can make their stay as stress-free as possible. I have raised beds in each kennel as well as plenty of blankets, toys and treats, but you can bring anything from home that you feel may give them comfort. I will provide Purina ONE dry dog food but you are welcome and encouraged to bring whatever food your dog eats at home, both for the familiarity and to minimize stomach upset that can be caused by a dietary change.

NOTE: To protect the health of my boarders, I do require proof of veterinary vaccination against rabies, distemper/parvo (DHPP or DAP), and Bordetella. You can bring along a copy of your receipt or I can call your vet to confirm. I know that some people vaccinate their own pets, but I cannot accept boarders who were not vaccinated by a licensed veterinarian.

Puppies must be at least 16 weeks old and finished with their vaccination series to board. Due to the risk of community Parvovirus infection from stray, unvaccinated dogs it is highly recommended that you find a friend or family member to care for your puppy in your own home until he or she is completely vaccinated.
